Microsoft/AlphaPi Co-Hosted Event: How Mixed Reality And AI Can Empower Frontline Workers
On 28th Feb 2024, AlphaPi hosted a hybrid event together with Microsoft Australia showcasing how mixed reality and AI can be used to enhance the training, collaboration, and decision-making of frontline workers in various industries and scenarios.
Sarah Bowden, Microsoft Asia Global Partner Solutions Lead, opened the event with an introduction to Microsoft's mission, vision, and values for empowering every person and organisation on the planet to achieve more. She highlighted how Microsoft is investing in the industrial metaverse, where people and AI can work together to solve problems in the physical world, using mixed reality and edge computing. She also emphasised the importance of responsible and ethical AI, and how Microsoft is creating a platform that is trusted, transparent, and secure.
John Livanas, AlphaPi Chairman, shared the vision and approach of AlphaPi — a company that bridges the gap between industry and research, and leverages the power of mixed reality and AI to deliver innovative solutions for frontline workers. He gave examples of partnerships and projects including work with the Australian Federal Police, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and Land on Heart.
Lawrence Crumpton, Microsoft Mixed Reality Specialist, demonstrated the latest features and capabilities of the Microsoft HoloLens 2 device and Microsoft's mixed reality and AI platform — including how the HoloLens can understand the physical world in real time and provide contextualised assistance to users. He also previewed Perception Cloud, Copilot, and Remote Operations and Support.
Felicity Turner, Microsoft Data and AI Specialist, gave an overview of the Microsoft AI platform and how it can be integrated with mixed reality for frontline workers — covering machine learning, deep learning, and generative AI, with a use case from the Department of Defence using cognitive services to increase situational awareness.
AlphaPi highlighted its pioneering solutions that seamlessly integrate cutting-edge research with real-world challenges. AlphaPi's approach to customer engagement prioritises the end user's perspective, harnesses insights from machine learning and deep learning research, and delivers solutions iteratively — in close collaboration with Deakin University and the University of Sydney.
AlphaPi presented a demo of a mixed reality and AI training system for law enforcement officers. The system aims to improve the situational awareness and intervention skills of officers in high-risk incidents involving drug-intoxicated aggression in a watch house setting — using the Microsoft HoloLens 2 device, Copilot, and cognitive services to provide immersive, interactive, and adaptive training scenarios that simulate real-life situations and provide feedback and guidance.
At AlphaPi, we envision a future where technology seamlessly integrates with strategy to redefine possibilities. We aim to embed mixed reality and AI into the broader strategy for AFP — enhancing training effectiveness, providing real-time situational awareness feedback on officer focus, and tailoring personalised learning paths through AI-driven analysis of trainee interactions.
With a focus on community safety and advancement, AlphaPi is committed to pushing boundaries and fostering a safer, better future for ANZ. Join us as we embark on this journey towards innovation and progress. Together, we can shape a brighter tomorrow for all.
